Peter Gregson
Born in Edinburgh in 1987, Peter Gregson is a cellist and pioneer of contemporary music.
Peter’s debut album, Terminal, was released in 2010, followed by his Cello Multitracks, consisting of compositions by Gabriel Prokofiev, released in 2012 on Prokofiev’s Nonclassical label. Lights in the Sky, his second studio album, composed for cello, piano, and analogue synthesisers, was released at Imogen Heap's ‘Reverb Festival' in August 2014. Peter is featured soloist on Michael Price's debut album for Erased Tapes, Entanglement, which was released in Spring 2015. Peter Gregson: Touch, was released in August 2015 through Sono Luminus.
His first feature film soundtrack was, 'A Little Chaos' , directed by Alan Rickman. He remains in demand for his work across film and television soundtracks. Spitfire Audio developed a sample library of Peter's extended techniques and sounds from his blue, five-string electric cello, all recorded at Pixel, his studio in London.
Peter has premiered works by composers including Tod Machover, Daníel Bjarnason, Gabriel Prokofiev, Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Steve Reich and Sally Beamish.
He has performed widely in the UK and the US, at venues ranging from The Royal Albert Hall, London to The Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh; from the Twitter Offices in San Francisco to Le Poisson Rouge, New York. He plays a Colin Irving acoustic cello, a custom five string Eric Jensen electric cello. He is an Apogee Electronics Artist and a Made-By Ambassador.
His innovative work has been recognised with the 2008 Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award for music, membership to the Courvoisier Future 500 and most recently the Sandbox Network, a global network of leading entrepreneurs under 30. Peter was the 2010/11 Creative in Residence at The Hospital Club, London, where he curates his year long series, alt_classical. He also worked on an album for the end of his Hospital Club residency, collaborating with producer Guy Sigsworth.
He also collaborates with many of the world’s leading technologists, including Microsoft Labs, United Visual Artists, Reactify and the MIT Media Lab. Peter was commissioned by Bowers & Wilkins and Real World in 2009 to produce Terminal, an album of contemporary cello music. Subsequently, his music has been used in installations including The Secret Garden Party and The Courvoisier Revolutionary Spirit Festival, as well as commissions to create live soundtracks with visual artist Jamie Shaw at The Future Gallery and for ENO/Punchdrunk's staging of The Werewolf of London. Peter recently collaborated with producer Kidkanevil to create a track for Red Bull's Music Academy and has a remix on the latest Nonclassical release by Consortium5.
Performance highlights for 2010/11 included the MIT Media Lab, The Roundhouse, The Future Gallery, The 92nd St Y, The Lab Gallery, The Queen's Hall, An Tobar, Le Poisson Rouge, The Lemon Tree, Faster than Sound, Excite! Turin, TED Music, Aldeburgh Music, TED x Alcatraz (SF) and Kings Place, London.
